"Education is a state of mind, not a State system"
Ann Newstead
Do you believe that learning is the key? Anthony J. D'Angelo said "Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you'll never cease to grow"
As home educators, that is our aim for our children: to help them develop (or rediscover, if school has taken it from them) a passion for learning. Dan Snow said "When teaching, light a fire, don't fill a bucket" and that also sums up our approach: we don't seek to cram our kids full of facts to reproduce in an exam but to set them aflame with a love of discovery and an interest in the world around them.

What Are My Local Authority Like?
UK Home Educators have working relationships with each LA within the South East. Our intention is to create a relationship between the HE Community and the LAs that is tenable and workable for both parties. Where we find inaccuracies, negative attitudes and examples of injustice, we are committed to challenging them and working to correct them. Where we find positive attitudes, reasonable and fair procedures, and supportive networks, we will hold them up as examples of best practice and encourage the HE community to cooperate with them. Visit our Local page to find out more about your LA.
What's On in My Area?
Our group members are based within North Kent and South East London (examples being Chatham, Strood, Rochester, Maidstone, Canterbury, Bromley, Orpington, Sidcup and Dartford), however we welcome HE families everywhere. Visit our Local page to find out what is available and recommended within Kent, including worksheets and visit ideas. We also have listed other HE support groups around the country which may be more local to you.
Educational Activities
We also arrange joint activities - check out the Events page for some examples. If you have an event which you feel would be of interest, please feel free to contact us.
