Archaeology in the Primary School

The Canterbury Trust have a section on how young children can learn through Archaeology, and offers links for Key Stage 1 and 2 resources. Some materials you can lift straight off and use with children. Others you will want to dip into and adapt.

Archaeology in the Secondary School

The Canterbury Trust have a section on how examining the archaeological remains of earthworks, buildings and objects are primary sources of evidence for how people lived in the past. From them, we can learn how people went about meeting the daily needs of their society. We can compare their lifestyles to our own time, identifying differences and the similarities, between the two. They offer links for Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level.

Build a Medieval Castle

Past Explorers

PASt explorers is the Portable Antiquities Scheme's education website. The resources are primarily aimed at Key Stage 2 of the English National Curriculum, in other words are aimed at children between the ages of 7-11.

Roman Sandy

This web site is designed for children take on the role of the archaeologist, to look into Sandy’s Roman past. The web site is arranged as a quiz game, a series of challenges. Each must be completed before moving onto the next. The site is aimed at Key Stage 2 in the National Curriculum. It takes about an hour to complete and when finished there is a certificate as well as further exercises to complete off line

Spartan World

Sparta, rose to become the ultimate superpower in the Ancient Greek world. Its origins were shrouded in mystery and legend, self-proclaimed descendants of Hercules with a divine right to settle in the region of Laconia. This website is an ongoing project looking into the Spartan world.
